Shepherds Purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) goes by a few names such as Blind Weed, Capsella, and Witches Pouches.

This tea can be taken orally or applied as a tincture for minor wounds and cuts. Mostly known for the effects this herb has on bleeding, Shepherds Purse has been used for centuries to reduce flow in both long or heavy menstrual cycles.

Anecdotal evidence shows that this herb can even stop bleeding during cycles altogether - so depending on the person this is a powerful herb that should be used with caution.

A 2017 study on 100 women shows that postpartum bleeding may be reduced from the ingestion of this herb.

Others have reported this herb reducing or eliminating period pain.

Other properties are anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial.

Cautionary Notes

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Avoid unless instructed by a medical professional. Shepherd's Purse stimulates the uterus.

Bleeding and clotting: See your physician if you have a bleeding disorder or even use anticoagulants / antiplatelets (such as warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel).

Blood pressure and MAOIs: contains tyramine; Avoid if you take MAO inhibitor medicines or eat tyramine-restricted food. Monitor if you have hypertension.

Thyroid: high or chronic intake may affect iodine metabolism as a Brassicaceae plant; if you have a thyroid condition or take levothyroxine ask for advice.

Kidney problems/planned surgery: use cautiously; stop two weeks before surgery unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Allergies: Avoid if allergic to members of mustard/cabbage family (Brassicaceae).

Persistent or heavy bleeding and pelvic pain or urinary symptoms need medical assessment rather than self-treatment.

This is a mild, earthy herbal infusion made from the aerial parts of the Capsella bursa-pastoris plant - a member of the mustard family - long used in traditional European herbal preparations.

Is it caffeinated?
No, it's a pure herbal tea - and naturally caffeine-free.

Are there added flavours or sugars?
It contains only the dried shepherd's purse herb without any additives, sweeteners, or artificial flavors.

Does it get reheated?
If already brewed, reheat gently - avoid boiling. It is also good when chilled. Refrigerate immediately and consume within 24 hours.

How do I store it, and how long does it keep?
Store in a cool dry place away from light and humidity in a sealed airtight container. Best eaten within 18-24 months for best flavour & colour retention.

How much is shipping?

Couriers Please Shipping is $5.95 for orders under $60 and free for all orders over $60.

Australia Post is always at cost. Orders going to Po Box or Parcel Locker address may be locked in to Australia Post.

What are your transit times?

We dispatch within 24-48 hours (sometimes much faster) and from there we'll see 1-3 days transit to most metro locations within Australia excluding WA and NT which can take a week or so.

We also offer express post which will help speed up the process, at cost with no handling fees. These are always sent as priority and packed first.

Are there any discounts available?

We're quite generous with our loyalty programs, and the best way to take advantage of them is to create an account here. Also if you subscribe to our newsletter you'll gain access to members only discounts, rewards and an initial 10% off first order.

Are your teas certified organic?

Up until recently we were certified organic but due to rising administration costs and the difficulty of maintaining certification we've put this on hold for now. Our suppliers and farms remain the same without any change but just now label things are organic, pesticide free or wildcrafted.

This also allows us to maintain our current pricing without any increases which we feel is more important at this time.
