Pu-erh, as a tea, is also known as “ripe Pu-erh", and it has a silky, earthy taste unique to it. This is made possible by something called “wet piling” (wo dui), which makes the tea good for immediate consumption as the complexity will be brought up after some time.

Brewing

You can really appreciate the flavor of Pu-erh Shou Tea Cake by brewing it correctly. If you're new to tea, this is how to go about the process.

Water temperature: The cups of tea would not taste good if the water is not heated to the required temperature, generally between 95–100°C (203–212°F).

Rinse the tea: To remove any odd smells and save the fragrance, pour some hot water on the cake and remove it. Just let it soak for a couple of seconds.

Steeping time: To start, put 5 grams of Shou Pu'er in a teapot or a gaiwan. Let it steep for a period of about 10–20 seconds. Thereafter, keep raising the time every time you add a new infusion.

Re-steeping: To change the flavor of the tea, Shou Pu'er is steeped a couple more times, and make sure to alter the time after every steep for different earthy layers.

Enjoy: Add some tea into your cup and just let the bold flavors slowly dance around your mouth.

How do you make Pu-erh Shou Tea Cake?
Unflavored compressed dark tea from Yunnan is made from Camellia sinensis leaves. It is fermented to make a "shou" (ripe) pu-erh.

Is it caffeinated?
It's a real tea - with less caffeine than coffee although Pu-erh is known to be on the stronger side.

Does it have flavours or sugars added?
